Vehicle Location Using a Radio Channel

PCTrans offers vehicle location using radio data communication instead of cellular communication.  From a functional point of view this software is identical to the cellular version.   It allows transit agencies to view the location of buses on a map while booking a trip.  This is especially useful at demand-service sites, where a lot of passengers call when they are ready to be picked up.

Knowing where the buses are may have a number of benefits.  It may increase efficiency by helping Dispatchers choose the best vehicle more often.  It may save both time and radio bandwidth used currently when Dispatchers have to ask drivers for their location or having drivers report in.  It will also reduce the average wait time for passengers if the closest bus can be selected more often and in less time.

This software will have significantly lower operating costs for some clients. Whether or not your current radios will support this (or could be upgraded to do so) and the software development time and cost will depend on your radios.   Please email sales@pctrans.com for more information or call 989-277-7437.
