Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) allows each vehicle to communicate its location in real-time. PCTrans integrates each vehicle’s GPS location into the maps displayed in the dispatch window. This allows Dispatchers to schedule same day bookings and alter routes to accommodate cancellations and/or last minute requests with ease.  Also, changing weather or traffic conditions may be quickly factored into a vehicle’s route to minimize schedule disruptions.

A summary of PCTrans usage of AVL includes:

• Communicate via modem connected to the cellular network, or
• Interface with GPS equipped Radio system
• Arrows show the direction the vehicle is traveling
• Coverage analysis via historical plotting of GPS reports
• Historical plotting of all GPS reports for a vehicle within a selected time window
