PCTrans began in 2002 in response to a need for affordable transit software for the small to mid-sized transit provider. The founders of the company contacted local transit agencies and found that while affordable solutions existed to manage daily scheduling and reporting, those systems did not allow agencies to improve their efficiency and instead cost agencies in terms of support, daily maintenance and headaches. The PCTrans team utilized their experience from developing high-quality, full-featured software for very large transit systems (1,000+ buses) to create an easy to use, comprehensive scheduling, dispatching and reporting system that runs on personal computers (PCs) . By running on PCs, the solution was now affordable to even small transit companies. Thus the company was named PCTrans.
However, the story does not end there. By analyzing the needs and critical problems of small and mid-sized providers, PCTrans worked to ensure the solution would be effective from day one and would expand to meet the evolving needs of their clients.
